Hidden Peak

- Went for a early morning tour up hidden peak today. We did our best to avoid any slopes of consequence and made some observations along the way. Almost right away we noticed signs of instability. To numerous to count but lots of cracking and collapsing along with the hard trail breaking. - At 8300ft on a NE aspect we conducted a quick ECT and verified prop with a ECTP21 on the old/new interface which we ID as small moist facets. - After a full lap and a tour back up to the 8300ft bench, we descended again but just a hair more skiers right. About half way down we noticed some avalanche debris in the distance. As we skiied closer and to take a look I quickly realized this was a sizable avalanche (D2). I must say I was surprised. It was at 7500ft on a NE aspect, somewhat open terrain with a minor convexity at the crownline. -In all , I felt good about my choices today but also I realized I would of skiied that slope. We actually skiied (in old growth) terrain with same aspect and slope angle. The only real difference was the minor lack of veg and maybe a hair steeper. I guess one could say we got lucky, I don't know. But its weird out there and I feel as much as I know the terrain and the snow...Do I really? Just a reminder, were all human and we all think we know more than we do. Stay vigilant friends.
