Taylor Fork, Wx Ridge

Today we rode into the Taylor Fork. The road is pretty bumpy in the upper part since it hasn't been groomed yet. The snow coverage in the first part is low but good to ride.

We dug a pit on the ridge south of Pika Point. The snow profile showed two interesting things: a graupel layer in the upper part of the slab, and the persistent weak layer with facets near the bottom. 
Our test results showed ECTNs on the Graupel layer, and ECTPs on the bottom persistent weak layer. 

We furhter saw two avalanches. The first one is a D2 persistent slab, that is a few days old and the crown is mostly filled in with snow by now. The second one released today. It is a wind slab (D1), that broke pretty wide. The crown is shallow (~1ft).
In wind loaded spots, we observed cracking.

The visibility was mostly poor.
