Travel was tricky today with variable surface conditions. Wind has affected many slopes at all elevations, either scouring or loading them. The new snow is dense, and had a heavy, sticky feel to it, without actually being wet. Solars began to transition, becoming mushy, and then developing a bit of a crust. Localized collapsing made for difficult trail breaking, and led to whumphing and slopescale collapses BTL. In areas with a stiff wind slab NTL, it was easy to stay on top of the snow. In areas with a softer slab NTL, it was easy to break through to the facets below, and ultimately the ground.
Shooting cracks propogating up to a meter long BTL (8800') on a N aspect, protected from wind. Large slopescale collapse on a neutral aspect BTL (8800'). Cracking from wind affect present, but largely localized.Weather

Warm temperatures, sunny skies and calm SW winds BTL in the am. Temps increased throughout the day, skies remained blue, and SW winds fluctuated from calm to light to moderate and back to calm with elevation changes and time.
Snowpack
BTL - Wind slabs varied in stiffness, depth, and distribution and lay on top of a smattering of facets sandwiched between melt freeze crusts, and then 2 - 6 mm depth hoar at the ground. ECTP19 @ 51 cm down.
NTL - Wind slabs varied in stiffness, depth, and distribution and lay on top of ~ 40 cm of facets and depth hoar. 6 - 8 mm, chained, cupped, and striated depth hoar was observed at the ground. ECTP 19 @ 50 cm & @ ground.
