Quick report
We started touring pretty quickly after a short walk across the grass, found hard snow touring up but was not terribly icy. We dug some hand pits along the way below 1500’ and found moist snow to the ground below the supportable crust. 1” of new snow at 1200’ on uptrack, 3-5” of new snow and some crusts in it from 1500’ to 3,000’. It actually skied well from top to bottom! Dug 2 pits at 3,200’ SW face just below the last climb. Got similar results in both ECTP21 and ECTP29 down 50CM - failed above a 5cm rain crust sandwich, looked like weak layer was precip particles. CT13SC on the same layer. We did observe some wind slab on the uptrack from 2,000’ to 3,200’ along the ridge but they were small and 2-12” deep. These were more cornice like and had formed on the south side of the ridge along the uptrack. We skied down WSW aspect and lots of fun turns were made, it felt good to see the blue sky after all of that rain.
Avalanche
Cornice failure and small slab R1 D2 avalanche in Hippy Bowl, assuming skier triggered because of tracks near it but not confirmed.
