Traveling up HWY 70 via snowmobile we dug this pit on a south aspect (179 degrees S) at an elevation of 9400’. Total snow depth was 82cm. We performed an ECT and a PST on a 32 degree slope. Both tests provided reactive results, ECTP3 and PSTend 34/100. Both failures were recorded in the weak layer of facets located under the Christmas rain crust, 50cm below the surface of the snow. Weather conditions were warm and overcast, 28 F with light winds. Avoiding thin, wind and sun effected aspects and slopes over 30 degrees should be highly considered.
