Togwotee Pass, Angle Mountain

At the Angle weather station interval board (9,200') we observed 8.9" of snow and 1.1" of SWE which yields a density of approximately 12%. Above the weather station there was widespread cracking and collapsing on aspects that we travelled (SW, W, NW and N) up to 10,200. It seemed to us that Northerlies were slightly less reactive but still showing signs of instability. 10-12" of new snow at these elevations is sitting on old snow from November (a mix of facets and surface hoar) and is not bonding well. Snow heights varied from almost nothing to just over a meter in a few leeward areas near the ridge. The main problem right now is poor bonding between this storm snow and the widespread facets and surface hoar that developed previous to Saturday.

Coverage is still very thin, particularly at  lower elevations on the pass and exposed windward that was stripped of snow before the storm. Ski with caution!

Widespread collapsing and cracking above 9300'. These signs were observed at a most frequently on west and southwest aspects. Northerly aspects above 9800 were not quite as reactive but still widespread.
