Cement Mtn was not coy about its poor snowpack structure. Widespread collapses, some rumbling across entire slopes 50 to 100 feet +, most arresting within gladed or rocky terrain features 20' to 30'. Slabs are stiff and supportive (1F at the base) at all elevations, most commonly over fist hard 2-4 mm facets. Slabs are typically 30 to 70 cm thick, HS increased to about 110 cm on previously wind-loaded slopes. There is an element of slab anchoring from ground roughness here (talus, downed logs, etc), but otherwise, steep slopes appear easy to trigger still. We didn't travel near any proper avalanche paths, just a few small openings in trees. South and southwest aspects BTL still have lots of sagebrush poking out and look benign.
Almost every terrain feature collapsed while skinning. Windloaded northeast aspects were a little less reactive, but collapses were louder and more startling when they'd go. Windward slopes were most reactive, but slabs were thinner and collapses didn't typically radiate as far.Weather
