Rock slopes between St Joe Baldy and Reeds Baldy

At this elevation and aspect and slope the snowpack was very stable. There had been some wind loading, so there were some small drifts and the tree edges had more snow on the windward side. On very steep slopes with heavy wind loading there might be the potential for wet slabs on the top layer like we saw just a little of on the road bank. And on very steep slopes with no anchors and heavy wind loading there might be potential for climax slides to the ground. But we didn't see any propagation and the bottom layer was so solid it took a saw to break it apart. Very stable.

Snowpack
Elevation 5220 ft, SE aspect, 27° slope. The snow was 65 cm deep. There was a thin sun crust on the surface. The top 20 cm was fist density on top of a solid layer to ground that needed a saw to cut. The top 20 cm collapsed at CT 13, with no propagation. CT 27 caused the next layer to collapse at the ground without propagation. Thin, unconsolidated layer at the ground. Boot pack through new layer supported by solid lower layer.
