Snow surface conditions varied widely depending on aspect and elevation, with north facing slopes holding dry snow all the way to the trailhead at 5500 ft. We encountered a couple inches of fist density “recycled pow” on many of these gently north facing slopes at low elevations, as well as small patches of surface hoar both likely do due the recent diurnal weather cycle. On east and south facing slopes we found a melt freeze crust of varying thickness all the way up to the summit of Middle Sister at ~10k ft. By the end of the day low elevation sunny slopes held 3-5 inches of warm wet snow. As usual, upper elevation above tree-line slopes were heavily wind affected.
