Not surprisingly, the snowpack seems to have almost entirely transitioned to spring below about 9000’ or so. A dusting of new snow from Monday had been redistributed by the wind and mostly deposited on the Paradise Glacier and along Little Africa. The new snow had not incorporated into the spring snowpack and was very sticky. The overnight freeze was stout, but only 2-4” thick in most places. Folks traveling out of the established boot pack or without floatation were postholing to their boot tops. Warm temps and sunny skies helped the surface soften by 9am. We didn’t see any recent avalanches, but several older ones from last week were still prominent. The most interesting slides we saw were above the Wilson Bench on the Kautz Route (8000ft, E aspects) where it appeared a descending party trigger a pair of long running wet loose slides over the weekend.
