Quick report
I observed one small avalanche in the Boulders that appeared to be a wind slab with a 1-foot crown. Winds previously transported snow in exposed ridgelines, but I didn't experience any collapses. I found about 40 cm of recent snow since 1/1 with buried surface hoar at that interface. The surface hoar didn't produce any propagation in the large column test (ECTN20 x2). It was 2mm and sitting on a firm bed surface. There was a density change in the upper 20cm with not much of a slab on top of it in sheltered locations. I didn't dig down to the basal facets (12/5). I didn't get a good view into the Smokys, where it was lightly snowing and had low clouds for much of the day.
