Great visibility today to get out and see how much avalanche activity there has been since the huge weekend storm. Many slopes avalanched during the storm and have since filled back in from more wind and snow. The slides here on Double Hill are more recent and their crowns are still clean and sharp with some drifting. The slide on the north end is pretty impressive with the crown depth ranging from 2' to over 4' and the lookers right flank created a new trim line with evergreen trees ripped out and the debris traveled uphill onto a small bench. I can only imagine the speed and power of the slide as it traveled downhill and triggered a slide on the lower first hill.
Standing on top of Double Hill and looking at how much snow has been stripped clean from strong winds and deposited onto the east side of Double Hill. All the wind and heavy snow was too much weight and stress for the weak snow pack prior to the storm. This hard slab avalanche had large blocks of snow that I could hardly get one finger into.
