Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comment

Very weak fist-hard facets under 1-8 rime crust intact and only waiting for enough load to break the crust in this area..

Here is a picture of the all to common snow situation in the Tony Grove Area.. The problem is the weak snow preserved beneath the obvious 1-8 rime crust....

Surface foot of snow at around 8300' on a north facing slope..

Snowpack

Instability Comment

anywhere a significant slab has built on the poor snow structure is suspect. Haven't seen many slopes that fit the bill yet...

Wet avalanches a problem today on steep low elevation slopes..

Could still feel the 1-8 rime crust under new snow in this area 6" to 10" deep
