The calm before the storm: On a tour to ski a few laps on Coney's we observed wind effect and some isolated mild wind slabs (4F+) at the base of the face while skinning up. Skiing on leeward aspects revealed very little structure to the snow pack. Pit location dug on NorthEast aspect at an elevation of 10,750 ft, 22 degree slope, lightly windloaded. The snow total (HS) was 62 cm. Hardness in the upper half of the snowpack progressed from Fist to 4Finger+, and then abruptly went back to Fist hardness and stayed at that density all the way down to the ground. Results: ECTN4 @ 42cm, planar non-propagating crack (new/old snow interface from yesterday's snow); with continued loaded we found ECTP10 @ 32cm, sudden clean shear on faceting rounds (that 4F+ to F hardness transition noted before). Weather clear with high wispies just arriving, wind 0-5mph, air temp mid 20s F.
