Quick report

Collapsing
specific

Snowpack analysis was conducted below ridgeline, on a northern aspect after recent windrift from the NE. A 12° slope in a shallow valley measured 110cm of snowpack with varying levels of hardness, which had been compacted since the day before. During compression tests on a 30×30cm column of snow, collapsing was observed at moderate compression ONLY once the top layer was removed. However, the beginning stages of cornices were observed in the area, forming over sharp ridgelines and having the potential to become a hazard should more wind rift from the NE occur. (See photos)
