Quick report

15cm of fresh, wet snow has brought some of the miniature ski lines below Cathedral Ledge into condition. At 5PM, air temps were above freezing with light rain and fog.

Avalanche

This evening I was reminded (not for the first time) that new snow does not like to stick to ice, no matter how hard you will it to do so. Skiing the WI2 North End Slab at Cathedral Ledge in North Conway, my first turn triggered an R3 D1 wet loose avalanche. I was not entrained in the avalanche, and I was able to skitter and hop down the snow that remained. For its small size, the avalanche was loud and forceful - anyone standing below the slab would have had a rough time. Thankfully, this was nothing more than a free lesson.
