Quick report

We went out for a shakedown tour today: organizing equipment and popping in fresh beacon batteries, checking bindings, probes, etc for functionality. Despite packing our rock skis, we encountered no rocks, just inoffensive grass and ninebark poking above the snow surface. While it wasn't light powder, it was supportive and a worthwhile way to shake off the dust. Would recommend for pre-Thanksgiving exercise. We found no signs of instability. None

Snowpack

We found a a snowpack depth of HS40-55cm. The F+ hard surface snow was consistent in sheltered areas and from denser/warmer new snow rather than from wind compaction. Skis only penetrated 10cm, but a boot would punch down 30-40cm, to upper-calf.
