Quick report

Cracking
specific
Collapsing
isolated

About 2’ of new snow sits atop crusts everywhere we traveled today. The crusts are fairly stout on solars, but on shady terrain, the crust is thin and has small facets underneath.

Collapsing - Traveled primarily in previous traveled terrain, but we did get one massive collapse stepping off the skin track near the top of tweener ridge in wind-loaded terrain. It seemed to fail on 12/17 60cm down under a thin melt-freeze crust on facets.

Cracks - We saw cracking up to 100’ wide at the top of Avalanche Bowl in north-east facing terrain. It was heavily wind-loaded. The steep NE face had cracks mid-slope, as well as cracks that pulled back 10-15’ onto the flat ridge line above without an overhanging cornice.

Avalanche

Saw multiple avalanches in the Boulders. The biggest was NW face of Gladiator size D3. W face of Senate size D2, and NW bowl of Galena peak size D2.
