Quick report
HS at Gallagher Head Lake averaged around 110 cms, HST variable with previous wind transport/ warming/ settlement from 20-50 cms, perhaps more in some pockets above the lake. The top 15 cms of the snowpack were already saturated circa 9:00 or so, and things were increasingly manky and unpleasant for riding by 11:00 as rain continued to fall. The intrusion of the warm air aloft and lack of temperature gradient as we ascended was pretty remarkable-- 32 degrees and raining lightly all the way from the truck to 6000 feet. Creeks flowing freely.
Avalanche
As expected, widespread D1-D2 releases in recent storm snow from this week, some with distinctive crowns and others with more wet slide characteristics. Low HST and low overall snowpack precluded any particularly large or destructive activity of particular interest.
