The most reactive snow I have ever experienced. Watched a natural trigger D2 avalanche run, observed numerous whoomphs, huge shooting cracks, and substantial snow pack shifting. Lots and lots of now snow (2 feet at least?) with more coming down, a bit of wind but fine in protected meadows. Dug a pit at 9050feet on east aspect and found 100cm of snow, mostly fist hardness with a tiny layer of facets over 4-6 inches of ice at the bottom. Despite all the instability observed test was ECTX (video of pit time linked). Upon continuing up low angle pitch very slowly found all aforementioned instabilities. Unable to get any small terrain features to get moving despite substantial snowpack shifting and collapse. I would not be surprised if tomorrows forecast is high danger. Avalanche
Natural D2 Storm Slab avalanche on West Southwest aspect, 1.5-2ft crown, 40-60 ft wide. Ran 500+ feet through low angle trees. Trigger point being a thinly covered band of rocks at the top.
