Old Ski Bowl

Today’s patrol of the Wilderness boundary revealed no signs of instability. Snow surfaces from 4,000 to 6,500 feet have become a 15 centimeter thick melt freeze crust. This layer keeps your sled and skis on top of the surface, but your boots quickly penetrate through to the dry snow beneath. Above 6,500 feet, this crust is much thinner, allowing for a smoother transition to that soft snow below. Up to 9,000 feet, this thin crust remains, except for the most shaded northerly aspects.
