Quick report

Pit on west face at about ele. 6500 ft, 50 vert. ft off ridge line. Snow was wind affected across ridgeline. No cornices observed but lots of wind scour and wind compacted snow. Pit was dug on W face. Approx 35 degree slope angle. Temp. approx 25. Depth to ground was approx 36". A: Fresh snow, low consolidation 0-14" B: Consolidated, firm layer 15-30". C: Hoar and crystals forming weak layer/limited bonding. 31"-36" A few quick tests were run and snow pack was reactive with a clean shear 1 at Ec13 and Ec15 (two separate tests). Block jumped and was quite reactive. A proxy propagation test was run shear did not propagate. Conclusion: In areas with deep snow and fewer rocks, horizontal stability was remarkable despite reactive blocks. Ski report: Snow/sluff layer was dense and ski cuts barely propagated. Pack was stable through the descent. Pinwheels were developing with warming temps at about 6000 ft in dense fog. Snow melting off trees at 5700. Otherwise no shooting cracks or instability observed.
