Quick report

Off duty ride: Deadly avalanche recipe setup in Mosquito. Firm slab over very weak snow. Use extreme caution if traveling over Mud Pass as those steep terrain traps in the drainage bottom are ready to slide. Avalanches will be large and consequences severe. Wind exposed terrain has created a firm slab (4F) above the 1/4 weak layer. Very distinguishable trenching the sled.  Trenching across most aspects above 7500'-9000' revealed a thick 10cm layer of  very weak facets (F- hard) while south aspects harbored a breakable crust above thinner layer of facets. Some of the common offender avalanches failed naturally. Surprising not all of them.

Multiple natural avalanches observed. No cracking or collapsing as snowpack settled significantly.
