Paulina Peak

Around the lake (6,340ft) I found 2" of old snow with large patches of bare ground. There is alot more bare ground today than I saw last week. Around 7,700ft I found 20" of snow on the ground with better coverage for off trail travel. At around 7,000ft and above I came upon 1/2" of new snow sitting on a crust layer. This new snow was from the previous evening and was very heavy and dense. Unfortunatley, there was not much of it.

While digging in the snow I found the basal facets that we have been reporting. These appear to be rounding (gaining strength) and I did not have any column test results in this layer. I found these layers on north aspects around 7,700ft. 

Around noon it started to rain very lightly up at the summit and the upper snowpack become more wet and dense.

I did not see any cracking, whumpfing or any avalanche activity today.
