Hatcher Pass felt like a ghost town today after crowds of backcountry enthusiasts schralped the slopes since last Thursday and suddenly disappeared.  Hatchers saw a dusting of new snow overnight, reporting 1-2" or 3-5cm of new. Today felt like travelling in a ping pong ball with low visibility and a dusting of new snow barely covering up old tracks, amplifying visible rocks and old bed surfaces and slabs from the late January cycle.  Skinning uphill is challenging, likely more for split boarders with firm up-tracks to be tackled. South aspects range from 1-2" thick supportable to breakable sun crust and north aspects are holding colder snow, but it’s a combination of rounds and facets.  You can feel that snow surfaces have warmed up due to this last sunny, mild week of weather.  Not many people were out today, only a handful of Nordic skiiers, a couple of people on the sledding hill, and some ambitious snowmachiners making a go of it despite the challenging visibility. 

No signs of instability were observed today.
