I went back for another lap on Red Cone today. Recent storm snow has settled, ski penetration has decreased at all elevations. I experienced a collapse/whumph on an E aspect at 9500' in an exposed piece of BTL terrain (photo of terrain attached). A compression test performed here revealed hard, but sudden results in weak snow near the ground. The wind had really gotten to the ATL snow surface. Yesterday's skin track was covered and raised in some spots (See photo). I experienced another collapse/whumph on a NW aspect ATL adjacent to where a snowpit was reported yesterday in an observation. I repeated an ECT near yesterday's pit and found a stiffer overlying slab and still got propagating test results in weak basal facets/depth hoar. ATL the winds were moderate out of the SW with light local snow transport, but plenty of small banners visible off of the Mammoth Crest and sub-ridges below, as well as the Sherwin Ridge and it's continuation toward Pyramid Peak.
