- <p>Recent wind loading has formed slabs of various depth and strength. Some cracking on steep, wind loaded north facing slopes was observed, but the slab is generally four finger in nature and isn't well connected.</p>
This snowpit represents sheltered north facing terrain where the snowpack is pretty well behaved at the moment. We performed an Extended Column Test and got the new snow to fail on the NSF layer with four taps from the wrist... ECTP 4 Q1. While conditions seems rather benign at the moment and shallow soft slab avalanches are very manageable, we shouldn't take or eyes off the buried near surface facets, especially with a change in the weather pattern slated for later in the week.
Winds were channeled upslope and drifting occurred in unusual locations, creating a wavy gravy texture.
