Travelled into Huntington Ravine aware of the forecast, looking for wind slabs on E and S aspects. Our plan was to ski Yale, but after seeing conditions in Central we changed plans. We dug some hand pits on the ravine floor as well as the Fan and found 4F hard wind slabs breaking rather cleanly at 15cm down, but not propagating and breaking with little energy. We booted up Central, periodically gathering more hand pit data, until we reached 5250ft where the slabs became thicker (25cm), broke more cleanly, and with more energy. The slabs also became more complex with a 4F 5cm layer on top that broke cleanly from the thicker slab below. We made the decision to transition at this point based on the more complex nature of the snowpack. We had a great ski on Central and then headed over to Tux. Clear skies and very light winds in the morning, transitioning to a high thin overcast with increasing winds at midday.
