Toured from base to Campbell Basin Lodge following skin track up quicksilver to queens run. Under 5,500 ft, snowpack was clearly rain affected, with about 1-2 cm of fresh over a 4 cm rain crust with the rest being higher density snow probably from between 31Oct24 and 01Nov24. Depths ranged from negligible at base to ~30 cm. Many visible small rain runnels that did not impede travel, crust was not supportive. Around 6000 ft crust disappeared, and snowpack was largely homogenous. Snow became heavier/wetter due to sun after 10 am and we noted many rollerballs releasing from underneath the cliffs in Campbell basin. There was minimal activity noticed in the snowpack besides some very minor down track collapses near the Snow Garden/Forest queen intersection most likely caused by buried shrubs, could not replicate. Pole/glove pits used to track the rain crust layer until it reduced/disappeared. We did not notice significant wind effects down in the ski area, (minimal drifting besides a few creek/tree pockets) trees were loaded until the afternoon sun. Travel was difficult due to snow conditions, buried obstacles, and unfilled creeks/trail benches. We moved cautiously through lower angle terrain. Snowpack seemed relatively stable at the moment but areas with the relatively weak rain crust could become problematic with loading. Mixed overcast with minor precipitation.
