Quick report
This was a quick morning ski as I drove over the pass. Plenty of dry slopes around, but many more slopes with solid coverage and supportable snow. Still a lot of easy-to-access fun to be had out there if you're not ready to give up on skiing! Even though snow coverage is absent from the lower valleys, there is still a lot of snow hanging on in the hills. I found a well-refrozen snowpack thanks to open skies overnight and temperatures around freezing. Skiing was excellent, with peeling corn on E-SE aspects on 30-35 degree mid-elevation slopes between 0930 and 1030. Anything in the shade (even on solar slopes shaded by trees) was still frozen solid and locked up by my departure. I did not encounter any signs of instability and was not met with any avalanche problems during my time in the field. With more time, one could have easily followed the corn harvest around the compass for at least a few hours. I did not encounter any signs of instability, nor any avalanche problems.
Snowpack
Snow from 3/30 -> 4/1 has consolidated well on solar aspects, thanks to a great cycle of melts and freezes. The surface left behind from the March Heatwave is stout, icy, and supportable underneath this recent snow
