Gash

Toured up to the mini Gash area. Great powder skiing up high - it finally felt like winter! Moderate to heavy snowfall from the morning into the early afternoon. Transitioned to light snowfall later in the afternoon. Winds were light in the morning but picked up in the afternoon to moderate out of the SW with some strong gusts. The true ridgeline sounded windier, but we didn't make it up there. We didn't take any actual measurements, but there was roughly 2 feet of new/recent snow at 8000 ft, 1 foot at 6000 ft, and 6 inches at the lower trailhead (4800 ft). The snow was dense and getting moist below 6000 ft in the afternoon. We observed some small cracks around our skis in wind affected areas, but kept to mostly wind protected, low angle terrain today. Visibility was too limited to see much avalanche terrain. It's still thin down low, but the dense snow definitely helped with some base building. The exit could use some weed whacking!
