Quick report
While on snowmobile and wilderness boundary patrol today, Sam and I witnessed no signs of snow instability. No avalanches, no roller balls, nothing but sunshine. The snowmobiling conditions are what they call hero snow. That is, a supportable base with soft wet corn grains at the surface that make oversnow travel simple. We measured below treeline snowdepths in a range of 90 to 150 centimeters. Near the treeline (above 6,500 feet), the snowpack is notably deeper, nearing 420 centimeters (14 feet) at the Brewer Creek Trailhead. As the day progressed we watched as high clouds built up over Mount Shasta ahead of an incoming band precipiation expected to arrive tonight and into tomorrow morning.
