Lionhead

We went out to pull our wind station off Lionhead Ridge for repairs (hopefully it'll be back up very soon). From the ridgeline we could see the natural avalanches in Targhee Creek that were reported yesterday (https://www.mtavalanche.com/observations#/view/observations/23cbcb83-2084-4bc1-800f-d19943d608b4).  We also saw debris and a faint crown of an avalanche on Bald Peak - it looks to have been a natural wind slab from the last ~5 days, but can't pin it down much more than that.

Winds were very strong out of the south today, but there wasn't much snow transport going on anymore (since the strong winds have been going on for a couple days now). The snow surface was extremely wind textured in any place that wasn't sheltered by trees. 

We dug a pit on a NE facing slope at 9000 ft just off Lionhead ridge. We got propagation in our extended column tests (ECTP13 & ECTP14) on the weak, faceted snow from late January, that is buried about 2 ft deep.

We also got a collapse as we approached a pit site on the edge of the "Lionhead Ski Hill" slide path at 8000 ft, NE aspect.  The collapse was also on the late January weak layer, about 2 ft deep, in this location there was surface hoar (10 mm) in addition to facets.

We used binoculars to look for avalanches further out along Lionhead Ridge from the highway and didn't see any, but recent wind drifting could have easily obscured crowns.
