Quick report
Monthly transceiver practice at the WMR beacon park, then a quick walk to Hellroaring Peak.
- Found a couple layers of buried (decomposing) surface hoar roughly one foot deep at 6700', North aspect
- This layer propagated in an Extended Column Test
- No other obvious signs of instability
- No sign of recent wind transport
- Solar aspects had two thin melt-freeze crusts in the top foot of snow
- The top crust was supportable on open slopes and punchy in the trees
