Pickett Peak

I went out and toured around Pickett Peak today. The weather seemed mild compared to yesterday. Winds were light with an overcast of clouds hovering above Pickett Peak  to start the day and the skies opened up by noon. Snow conditions below tree line held cold soft snow in this area. Wind damage was only in open and exposed areas within the trees. I did come across a few wind slabs in cross loaded, steep rollovers within the terrain. Definitely a shallow snowpack in this zone with an HS of roughly 90 cm. My pit profile was mostly crusts and facets. The facets are continuing to mature underneath the two predominant crusts in the snow pack. One at 25 cm down (Dec. 24th) and one at 35 cm down. During my compression test, there was weakness and collapsing on these layers, but with poor sheer quality. Otherwise nothing else remarkable within my tests.

I dug a pit on a northeast aspect at 8100 feet. The snow total was 90 cm.  I was able to dig all the way to the ground. The snowpack was right side up; with a mix of facet layers and crusts all the way through. Facets are continuing to mature underneath the two predominant crusts in the snowpack.
