Quick report
Variable new snow amounts of 4-6" based on wind distribution (W/NW 20-25 mph last night). New snow insulated the older snow creating soft isothermal surfaces below new snow. Overall soft, cream cheese conditions that were quite nice for turns. New snow came in dense and was warming quickly making small wet loose avalanches easy to trigger on steep slopes with lots of rollerball and pinwheel activity. No suction conditions and snow remained fast in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy skies with light W/NW wind.
Drier snow exists in higher elevations where wind slabs would be a concern, especially above 10,000'. We observed visual clues of strong winds and previous transport last night. Soft wind slabs less than 12" are possible to find in the alpine while the snow remains relatively dry. Main concern will be any wet avalanche activity within the new snow. Wet snow problems will be more serious on larger, sustained slopes and complex terrain.
Snow coverage is decent and possible to ride directly back to the highway in various locations.
