Observation: Days Fork

Went to Reed and Benson Ridge today and dropped Crystal Palace. 4" of snow on the crust from the last storm on the way to the top. Above 8500' the crust was softer, below it was ice. 8500' and above there was surface hoar that had formed 1.5-3mm in size on average. The crust below was unsupportable by a snowboard and cause both riders to break through multiple times.
