Bluebird day in the mountains. Surface conditions on the approach between Clark Lake TH, Moonlight Meadows, and the Haystack saddle were a mixed bag of soft snow and wind-ravaged crust of varying thickness and distribution. While there were occasional good turns to be found, skiing in the haystack glades was variable, with many areas of wind-hammered snow. The lurking stumps and deadfall were of concern as well, as the snowpack isn't particularly deep in the zone. We noticed avalanche debris on some of the lines coming off the north face of Haystack Mountain, ~D1, as well as larger debris on the south side of Mt. Tomasaki. No fracture initiated on our extended column test at ~10,400' in the haystack glades.
