Toured into Gulf of Slides. It was notable how much snow remained in the trees up to nearly 4000ft elevation. 5-10cm of low density new snow on the GOSST. Upon arriving at the base of main gully at 1045-1100 we could see streams of snow blowing off the ridge lines. Several parties were already booting up main gully so we toured over to the Sandbox. The Sandbox had several cm of fresh snow on top of the old crust, and the crust was extremely stubborn. When we were able to punch through the crust with our pole handles the snow was heavily faceted and felt like air under the crust. We booted to ~4700ft where we found extensive wind slabs, which were stubborn yet hollow sounding. We quickly retreated on skis, for a run of very marginal quality. We then booted up Main Gully as the winds continued to pick up. Gusts were strong enough to cause us to pause while booting. Slabs were forming rapidly above ~4800ft on S aspects in the lee of this N wind. Minimal boot pen above 4600ft. The skiing in Main Gully was loud and variable, ranging from crust with little to no ski pen to blown in powder snow. GOSST has excellent coverage and is skiing quite nicely.
