Quick report
Toured up the sixmile trail, walked in shoes to about 5200 feet before transitioning. Once the trail met up with the Alpine 7 we veered off of the trail corridor in order to stay on the solar aspects of the ridge. We found 6-8 inches of new snow on top of a supportable crust. We toured to the summit of sixmile and felt good about skiing the south face based on our observations and hand pits on the same aspect during the approach. We chose a careful ski cut near the top of the face to check for the crust. The crust was present, and the skiing was actually very fun. "It skis like a groomer" The combat skiing back to the trail was also better than expected, until it was not.
