Quick report
It was unseasonably hot today - I rode out in a t-shirt. The snowpack hasn't had a chance to freeze for several days. In low elevations, the snowpack was isothermal and mostly unsupportable off of packed surfaces. At higher elevations, there were areas of unsupportable snow, but conditions were less consistently isothermal. We saw a cluster of wet, loose avalanches on a steep, rocky, east-facing slope. A clear count of the number of independent events is challenging or impossible to identify, so I am calling this one event, but it was likely a series of smaller slides. Some of the avalanches gouged through the entire season's snowpack, gaining significant volume.
While we didn't observe wet slab avalanches today, the presence of persistent weak layers in the snowpack still warrants caution on or below steep slopes.
We observed multiple small wet loose avalanches and roller balls on eastern aspects off of Skyline Ridge.Weather
