Quick report
Spent the afternoon skiing in the Alpental back bowls (lift served) with good skiing. Observed some ~6" slabs triggered by Alpental patrol explosives between piss pass and DDR. Experienced mostly stable and quality snow on steep non-solar aspects. Skinned up and skied 261 on last lap and then continued across pineapple basin and up towards Bryant Col with intention of skiing terrain skiers right of Bryant Couloir. Performed initial hard ski cut on convexity at top of line with no results. But hand pits resulted in a slightly stubborn but planar failure on a layer ~12" deep. Performed second ski cut on slightly lower and steeper convexity which triggered the slide. The size of the crowns along the sides of the terrain feature exceeded 12" and seemed like more than the overnight snow, but possible this area just got more than the top of Alpental (reporting 10"). Slide ran full slope, over benches and left debris in both no-fog and on skiers right side of apron above source lake. Spoke to two skiers skinning up no fog who reported they heard and saw the slide coming and were able to avoid. The confirmed there was no one else in the runout area.
Avalanche
D2 storm slab triggered by ski cut at 5100' NE aspect at 6pm (3/13). ~12" crown where triggered ~100' width. Propagated along sides of and below chute as it ran, where crowns appeared to be as large as 16+". Ran ~1000' vertical.
