Quick report
Toured up Mill1. Skied the SE bowl then out the skinner back to the Mill Cr TH. Did not experience any collapsing or cracking, no past avalanches observed (low visibility to other slopes). Weather: just above freezing and slightly snowing down low, swampy by end of day. Very light breeze (out of N) on E ridge of Mill1. Below freezing and snowing on/off up high. Cloud cover all day with no direct sun. Snow Obs: - Dug a pit at 7800' on a SSE aspect. Depth = 160cm. CT showed several layers in the recent (since 2/1) storm snow. ECT showed collapsing, but no propagation in the snow from the last 24hr. At ~40cm down there was an interface between 2 layers of recent snow that propagated ~1/2 way across the column at forearm tap 11. Observed preserved facets below January ice crust (~95cm down from snow surface), could not produce results with "traditional" methods. "Boot stomped" the column after ECT and got full propagation on that facet layer. - new (2/16-2/17) snow came in relatively wind-free - low elevation snow became wet by end of day - "survival skiing" line was ~6000' on our route
