Quick report

Made a loop around Wenatchee Mt. variable conditions, temperature and snow. Started at ~4500 cold 23 degrees, rock hard snow, above 6000, sunshine and mild temperatures. On north aspect and in the shade snow still preserved, but on sunny aspect melt freeze crust and a surprise ing amount of wind affect. The most notable observation was 3cm of hoar crystals forming in protected areas, if it gets buried it will be a bear trap. Put in a couple of pits, one high, one low. Hs 80, elevation, 6550, aspect,020, sky clear, wind calm, temperature 36, 3cm hoar, discontinuity at 60-45-20, shovel shear revealed plainer failure and displacement at 60 and 20. Column test un reactive. #2 HS 75, elevation 5900, aspect 030, temperature 35, 3cm surface hoar, discontinuity at 55-20cm shovel shear less reactive, column failed on 23 at the 55 crust. Skiing was like the day; variable, a few good preserved powder turns, quit a few variable wind board/ soft turns, and a little sun softened crust. We avoided a big open slope we like to ski, just wasn’t the day. Travel was a bit of a slog.
