Quick report
Recon mission to WA Pass yesterday with the WSDOT crew. We observed widespread evidence of recent avalanches from the previous 72 hours. They ranged from D2-D3 and were generally R3-R4. Slopes that had been loaded by W winds during the storm produced the largest slides. Temperatures warmed significantly during the day, and we observed an active WL cycle around noon. Some of these WL slides reached D2 in size including one we watched occur on the S side of Hinkhouse Peak. Fresh WL debris also reached the road through the Cutthroat and Liberty Bell avalanche zones. We dug a snow profile in LB4 at 6100' that was unremarkable. We identified the JDL which was rounding and inactive. Finally, with temperatures reaching upwards of 40 F, 4 C, we also found the skiing to be unremarkable. Heavy mashed potatoes were on the menu, even on protected northerly slopes at mid elevations.
