We hit snow line at around 4,100 feet. Travel was reasonable as we ascended above the summer trail on Goat Mountain. On steep west and north west aspects we found evidence of wind slab between 2 and 6 inches. As we skinned up we did experience shooting cracks in two locations with thin (1-2 inch) wind slab on top of sun crust. Much of the south face of East Goat Mountain had flushed with wet loose. Middle udder which was our initial objective had suffered a D2.5 slab avalanche which appeared to be 1-2 weeks old and broke in some places at the ground interface. Start zone was at 6,250 feet and ran down to 4,500 feet. Crown height was 3-5 feet and the bed surface was a mix of rock, knife hard snow, and water ice. Snow was present all the way to Swamp Creek and we were able to keep skis on until we booted up to twin lake road.
Avalanche
Multiple large slab avalanches on the northwest face of goat and diffuse loose wet slides on the south face of goat.
