Quick report

Cracking
isolated

We skiied just out of bounds at the top of Ptarmigan and dug two pits on a north facing aspect. Pit one results: ECTN11 @ 15cm down from the surface, ECTN21 @ 20cm. Pit two results: ECTN12 @ 15cm, ECTN21 @ 25cm. We interpreted these pit results as nearly identical and likely failing on the same layers. Overall the skiing was a variably crusty experience (upper 2/3 of mountain), and the snowboarders seemed to have a better time with the snow. While the pit tests didn't propagate, the styrofoamy surface crust was extremely variable and the snow slabby. Many different layers to keep an eye on, would have been good to do a full snow profile. We noticed some isolated cracking on that top layer as we skied down mellow terrain.
