Quick report
Adequate coverage to snowmobile in from Alpine. Lots of growing surface hoar in the shade and flats at all elevations except above 8500' where the wind has knocked it down and formed zipper crusts. At 8000' there is about 2 feet of snowpack on NE slopes and so far it is not too sugary except the bottom few inches. Above 8500' there is about 3-4' of snowpack with an obvious weak layer a couple of feet down. Adequate coverage to ski down to 7000' on low angle, open, windloaded slopes. There is more total snowpack in the Murphy Creek drainage than there is further South in the Blind Bull drainage.
Avalanche
In addition to the recent avalanche shown in the photo we saw evidence of several older slabs and sluffs on steep, rocky NE aspects near ridgelines. The avalanche in the photo looks like it occurred after the most recent snowfall.
