Wind scoured surfaces still exist at upper elevations, but these are getting considerably less firm due to surface faceting processes. Skinning on a sidehill was challenging due to soft snow either sliding off the top of the slick Jan 3 crust, or in some areas, this crust breaking underfoot and sliding on the faceted snow below. Protected N aspects still hold cold snow and consistent skiing, however solar aspects held a thin surface crust. We did not observe any signs of new wet loose activity today on solar aspects in this area despite warm temps.

Snowpack
We dug a quick pit in steep NE aspect terrain @9400'. Snow surface consisted of F hard new snow and surface facets on top of Jan 3 rain crust. Below this were 4F facets. We had ECTN results both above and below the Jan 3 crust. Mid snowpack is a mixture of 1F snow and strong crusts. We found weak depth hoar at the ground, but it was hard to dig to this layer due to strong rain crust above.
