Quick report
This avalanche observation was at elev. 4400' about 1/2 mile from the ski area on an east facing slope. Temp was just above freezing. Calm wind, heavy overcast, light rain. We did not ski up into avalanche terrain today. We were soaked before we got that far from rain and wet tree bombs. The NWAC data logger reported 5 inches new overnight, but we found only 2" new as we traveled through the woods. It was very wet snow. High suction on the downhill.
Avalanche
Driving up to Mission Ridge I observed 2 very small wet loose avalanches in the road cut bank. Later, driving down around noon, I observed the slab avalanche in the photos. The varying thickness of the crown suggest wind deposited snow. From the road, the crown looks like it could vary from 4" to maybe 16". Some of the debris jumped the plow berm to reach the road. I think it was either remotely triggered by road vibration or plow spray, or possibly ran naturally.
